The following communication was sent to EYK customers on May 17th, 2023.
--------
Dear EYK customer,
As part of a strategic decision by the new leadership of the company, it was decided to end all Engineering efforts for EYK as a standalone product, effective June 30th, 2023. In practical matters it means that there will not be any further feature development for EYK after said date, with only critical issues to be addressed, and all Support will cease at the end of Q2 2024.
During June 2023 your existing clusters will be upgraded to a version that will be stable until the end of Support. That version of EYK will be known going forward as EYC Stack v8, and will gradually be integrated into the EYC UI. EYC Stack v8 is slated to be released in mid 2024, and will incorporate many of the container technology and no-ops practices featured on EYK.
Until EYC Stack v8 is released and Support becomes available, the simplest option is:
- Wait for EYC Stack v8. Billing for your cluster will be adjusted to match that of EYC (per instance pricing, associated AWS incidental usage, plus Support). We will share the details tailored to your case shortly, but it's guaranteed that it will be less than your current bill for EYK.
If you would prefer to go in the direction of self-managing your clusters, the non-exclusive set of options are:
- Take ownership of your EYK clusters, continue to pay for AWS usage as a part of your EY invoice, and pay a nominal fee of $ 250/mo for licensing the EYK technology, receiving fixes for critical issues until the end of Q2 2024. Any existing EYC environments will continue to work and be charged as they currently are.
- Take ownership of the underlying AWS account and pay AWS directly for usage, then pay a nominal fee of $ 250/mo to EY for licensing the EYK technology, receiving fixes for critical issues until the end of Q2 2024. Any existing EYC environments will continue to work and be charged by EY only for Platform and Support.
- Either 1) or 2) above, and contract a third party service for managing your clusters. We are willing to work with any provider of your choosing.
For customers under a Platinum subscription, the commitment will be transferred to any EYC environment of your choice. If you don't have any, then talk to us for options.
We are happy to discuss other options as well, either through this ticket or a call that can be scheduled here. We are committed to working with you through this transition to ensure your continued success with Engine Yard.
On a related note, we do fully understand this is not what you expected when taking on EYK. Nor was it our expectation when building, releasing, and promoting the product. But under the new leadership, the EY business wants to focus on a single product. Thanks for understanding.
Regards,
Engine Yard
